The Ghana Pentecostal council was founded in early 1969. Its maiden meeting was held on March 3, 1969 at the Assemblies of God Evangel Church, Adabraka, under the name “Ghana Evangelical Fellowship” (GEF). It was intended to be a link between member churches and the Association of Evangelicals of Africa and Madagascar (AEAM).
The following Ministers were present Rev. Austin Ofori Addo and Rev. James Ghartgey (The Apostolic Church), Rev. James Mckeown and Rev. J. Egyir Paintsil (The Church of Pentecost), Rev. Edwin Zieman, Rev. Robert L. Cobb, and Rev. Djan Fosu(Assemblies of God Church), Rev. David Mills and Rev. David Tenobi (Elim Pentecostal Church), Rev. Daniel K. Saforo (Christ Apostolic Church), Gregory Francis (W.E.C Mission), Rose Gaskin (W.E.C. Mission), George A. Nicolas (Bible Society of Ghana), Clan Morris (Scripture Union), Allan Konrad (Lutheran Church of God).
MOTION
The historic motion for the formation of the Ghana Evangelical Fellowship was moved by Rev. James Mckeown, the then Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, and was seconded by Rev. Daniel K. Saforo of the Christ Apostolic Church. The motion was unanimously carried.
The GEF was officially inaugurated on Thursday, November 6, 1969, at the Bible House, Accra. The founding member churches were: Assemblies of God Church, The Church of Pentecost, Elim Pentecostal Church, the Christ Apostolic Church and the Apostolic Church.

Uniting the body of Christ in the Holy Ghost
OUR VISION
1. To be an umbrella body that will unite the family of Christ in Ghana and beyond in accordance with the following
Scriptures:
§ John 17:21, “That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.believe that you have sent me’.§ Psalm 133:1, 3b, “Beloved how good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity; for there the Lord beloveds his blessings even life forevermore.
2. To have member churches exercise the authority and power given by our Lord Jesus Christ to His church to go and to preach the Good News with signs following (Mark 16:15-18, Matthew 28:19-20).
3. To demonstrate the Love God to humanity through the provision of social services.
OUR OBJECTIVES
· To promote good relationships between member churches and other church organizations in Ghana particular and in the world at large.
· To create effective fellowship this will activate great revivals that will bring about mighty moves of God in our land.
· To encourage effective networking among member churches and other Christians by way of sharing ministries.
· To maintain high standards of Christian doctrine principles, ethics and attitudes among member churches as outlined in the Council’s Code of Ethics.
· To constitute a disciplined, knowdgeable and influential entity with the ability to discuss issues on national development, good governance and good citizenship and make presentation before Government and other authorities when necessary.
· To utilize all gifts in the Body of Christ for the promotion of Christian education, health, agriculture, biological ecological balance and preservation, social change, relief Activities and poverty alleviation to the benefit of members and the society.
· To promote good relationship within member churches. In pursuit of this objective, it is affirmed that before as church-related issue is taken to court by a member church, the GPC should be first consulted with a view to having the matter or issue amicably resolved.
OUR STRATEGY
· To promote awareness and organize programmes that will maximize the potential of member churches regularly at city, district, regional and national levels.
· To encourage the maintenance of high standard of Christian Principles and Ethics among member churches through mechanisms of internal self-discipline in order to influence national, spiritual and socio-economic issues.
· To develop appropriate and effective procedures that will enable GPC to attract new members.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership of the GPC is open to all Pentecost and Charismatic Churches and Ministries in Ghana.
MODE OF APPLICATION
Membership if GPC begins by means of a written application to the General Secretary of the Council. The applicant will be required to fill an application form and attached the following document:
1. The constitution of the church or para-church organization.
2. The background history of the church.
3. Certificate of registration.
4. A support reference letter from an already existing full member of GPC.
5. An application fee (determined by the Secretariat).
GPC WEEK CELEBRATION
The first Monday to Sunday of October every year is celebrated as GPC Week. Member Churches in all localities in Ghana are obliged to observe and participate as follows:
v Programme of activities from the National Secretariat is circulated to all member churches by the end of June each year.
v The week is an occasion for fellowship and exchange of platforms among member churches.
v Member churches actively raise funds for GPC during the celebrations. The funds so raised are channeled into GPC National Accounts.
v GPC Regional, District and Local Leaders are focal officers of the GPC Week Celebration.
